I love bringing a community together. As parents, we have to reflect on our priorities and move school engagement higher on the list. In 2015, I felt disconnected from my children’s school and I made the commitment to start going to PTA meetings. At the first meeting, I offered to put on a free Outdoor Movie Night and it was a huge success. I was hooked and shortly after, I was voted in as the PTA President. If elected to the DPS Board, I plan to bring that same passion for community building to the DPS Board of Education.
There are so many ways to get involved at your school. Read in the classroom, be a lunch monitor, go to a PTA meeting, join your school’s CSC (Collaborative School Committee), shovel snow from the school sidewalks, play basketball during recess — do what makes you happy. It all adds up when we pitch in to help our schools.
